What Happen to Mike?
_ You have not received “A Piece of My Mind” for several months. Here is what happened.
On February 28, 2011, my legs began acting like they had Mad Cow Disease – they would not support me. I went to the UCLA/Santa Monica Hospital Emergency Room where it took the doctors 24 hours to figure out that I had an abscess in my spinal column leaning against my spinal cord, a very rare occurrence. They rushed me into emergency surgery to remove the abscess. The operation was successful, but the damage to the spinal cord left me without the use of my legs.
I spent the next five weeks at in-house physical therapy at UCLA. When I was released, I began physical therapy at Northridge Hospital, which I continue to this day. Because I’ve always had some movement and feeling in both legs, there is the possibility that I will have the complete recovery. So far I have made significant progress. With braces on my legs and the help of a walker, I can slowly walk several hundred feet, but it will be a long, laborious process before I can really walk again.
I also returned to The Lindley Church. I figured that if FDR could run the country from a wheelchair, I could pastor a church from a wheelchair. I am speaking twice a week. On Sunday mornings I’m going through the Gospel of Mark, and on Wednesday nights, the book of Revelation. As I preach these messages, they are posted on the church website, www.lindleychurch.com. You can listen to them online and/or download them.
In the meantime, I have revised my website www.insightsfromtheword.com. It includes:
“A Piece of My Mind” articles All back issues are there in chronological order.
Books Evangelism: A Biblical Approach, The Salvation Controversy, and eight commentaries are available for order. Repentance: The Most Misunderstood Word in the Bible is available from www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com.
A Basic Bible Course These free courses are a more formal approach to Bible training, such as one would receive in a Bible Institute. Nine simple and practical courses are posted, including: The Spiritual Life, Family Life, The Christian Life, The Plane View of the Bible (an overview of the Bible), The Bible: Book by Book (a brief introduction to each book of the Bible), Relating Doctrine to Daily Living, Evangelism without Fear, Oh That I May Know the Truth (how to study the Bible), and How to Prepare Effective Messages. These courses can be used for personal study, small group Bible studies, or for teaching a class.
Topical Studies In-depth studies of Biblical and theological issues are posted. There is a short article on, “Is Water Baptism Necessary for Salvation?” as well as studies on The Chronology of the Bible, The Synoptic Problem, and Why so Many Denominations?
