People Need the Lord
We who know the Lord think those who do not know the Lord, need the Lord in order to get to heaven. While that’s true, there’s more to it—a whole lot more.
People have no direction for their way. Without the Lord, people do not know the direction to take in life. They may know what career they would like to pursue, hobbies they would like to enjoy, and vacations they would like to take. They may even have a basic moral code, but when it comes to finding the direction for which they were designed, they are lost. They need some divine direction.
People have no strength for their duties. Most people think they can handle their responsibilities. With self-effort, self-determination, and self-discipline, they are of the opinion they can be self-sufficient. There is no doubt that determination and discipline can accomplish a great deal, but to achieve all that people were designed to do takes more strength than they have. They need divine strength.
People have no support in their trouble. People have a support system in their family and friends. That is good, but, sooner or later, people encounter problems that take more support than others can give them. They need divine support.
People have no solution for their sin. When it comes to faults and failures, people are of the opinion that they can solve their problem by being righteous and/or religious. Those who think that have no clue what God says about the situation. People need the divine gospel.
People have no hope in the end. Most do not think about the end of life. They’re too busy thinking about their present circumstances. Those who do think about it, hope they have a crack at heaven because of the good things they have done in this life. Again, they’re clueless concerning what God says. They need divine hope.
In short, people need the Lord.
Those who have realized they are sinners, who have recognized that Jesus Christ died for their sin and arose from the dead, and who have relied on Him for the gift of eternal life, have the divine solution to sin and a hope of heaven that is sure (1 Jn. 5:13). Those who follow the Lord find divine direction for their life (Prov. 3:5-6). Those who lean on the Lord during times of trouble experience the reality of “underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deut. 33:27). Those who “wait on the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isa. 40: 31).
What a tragedy to not know the Lord! What a disaster to not have the forgiveness of sins and eternal life, especially in light of the fact that those things are a free gift (Eph. 2:8).
How sad to know the Lord, but not follow His directions, not lean on Him for support, and not trust Him for His strength. It is particularly depressing, because God’s direction is only a book away and His support and strength are but a prayer away.
People need the Lord, not just to go to heaven, but to get through life. It is not too much to say that people need the Lord—every day, all day.
